The Romanian Consumer Protection Society (APC Rom & acircnia) purchased, during July of this year, 33 types of canned mackerel and tomato sauce from several supermarkets / hypermarkets in the country. Of these types of cans, only 21 brands (Baltic Club, Carrefour, Cora, Delhaize Group - France, Delhaize Group - Morocco, Eva, Fine Life, Garom, Gran

Mare, Home Garden, King Oscar, Korab, La perla, Larsen Pure, Losos Ustka, Merve, Nautica, Nemo, Neptun, Vasco da Gama and Yachtis) are composed of mackerel fillets, while 12 brands (Aro, Corăbioara, Fisher King, Geana, Goody & # 39s, Harpun, Kaija, Novac, Ocean Fish, Old Fisherman, Pelican, Puerto del Gusto) are made up of gutted mackerel or mackerel pieces.

APC Rom & acircnia experts, coordinated by Assoc. dr. Costel Stanciu, performed the analysis of the information on the label of canned fish, on which occasion the following were found:

the canned fish analyzed come from several countries: 43% from Poland, 12% from Latvia, 12% from Thailand, 9% from Bulgaria, 9% from Morocco, 6% from France, 3% from Lithuania, 3% from Germany, and 3% of Chile

The following food additives were identified in the composition of the canned fish analyzed:

& raquo guar gum (46% of canned fish) Guar gum is a very common additive used in Romanian food. E412 is a polysaccharide used in the food industry as a stabilizer, emulsifier and thickener.
