Sparkling Blood Orange Cocktail

This might just be the best blood orange cocktail you've ever had, we promise. This party-friendly recipe comes from Andrea Correale, caterer to the stars.


  • 1/4 Cup crème de cassis
  • One 750-milliliter bottle chilled sparking white wine
  • 8 blood orange slices
  • 1 1/2 Cup strained fresh blood orange juice


Start with 1 1/2 teaspoons crème de cassis Add 3 tablespoons juice to each glass. Fill each glass with sparkling white wine, then stir gently. Garnish cocktails with slices of blood orange.

Giada De Laurentiis’ 3-Ingredient Blood Orange Shandy Is Our Official Summer Cocktail

Summer calls for three things: fresh fruit, sparkling beverages, and light beer. Even better when you can combine the three for one refreshing summer cocktail &mdash and Food Network star Giada De Laurentiis has done just that. It’s called the Blood Orange Shandy, and we’re already counting the down the minutes ’til happy hour to make this perfect-for-poolside drink.

“This fizzy cocktail is the perfect light sipper for daytime &mdash the blood orange shandy!” the Instagram post reads. “All you need is light beer, sparkling blood orange juice, and some lemon and mint to jazz it up.”

We love it anytime De Laurentiis’ shares an easy, can’t-miss recipe, and her Blood Orange Shandy calls for just three ingredients: very cold light beer, very cold sparkling blood orange juice, and lemon slices as the garnish. The fourth optional ingredient are fresh mint sprigs, also for garnishing.

“Popular in the UK, where it’s also known as a shandygaff, this cocktail is usually made of equal parts beer and carbonated lemonade. This version swaps out the latter for sparkling blood orange juice, which is a touch more exotic, and incredibly refreshing. This is a fantastic simple cocktail to whip up on a hot day,” De Laurentiis writes.

Making the cocktail is incredibly easy, too. Simply combine the beer and juice in a pitcher, and pour into chilled tall glasses. Don’t forget the ice, either and top each cocktail off with a lemon slice and sprig.

The best part about this cocktail? Yes, it tastes great, but they’re each only 77 calories per serving (depending on the light beer you choose, of course!).

Make The Blood Orange Base: Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar, diced blood orange peel and vanilla until the sugar is dissolved. Set aside to cool off and steep for 1 hour. Strain through a fine mesh strainer, discard solids, add blood orange juice and refrigerate until cold.

The base be made up to 4 days ahead.

Make One Cocktail: Fill a chilled champagne flute halfway with ice water and let sit 30 seconds until chilled. Discard ice water then add 1/2 ounce each blood orange base and Pama pomegranate liqueur to the bottom of the flute. Top with 4 ounces chilled Champagne, add a dash of bitters, then garnish with a twist and serve.

Sparkling Brunch Punch

Is it just me or does this winter feel like the longest one ever? After a long, snowy New York winter, I am elated that spring is almost here. If you’re like me and ready for a taste of spring, then this Sparkling Brunch Punch is for you.

Spring for me means warmer weather, less layers, and more brunch. Although I’ll be doing less brunching out with friends, I’m always ready for brunch at home. Because I have quite the reputation when it comes to hosting. From the decor to the food, I always show out. But the most memorable aspect of my brunch parties is always the drinks. They don’t call me the Cocktail Snob for nothing!

So as I prepare for what I hope will be a spring full of intimate brunches at home, I created the Sparkling Brunch Punch. It’s a perfect blood orange white sangria topped with bubbly and sweetened with the help of my newest obsession, Torani Puremade Blood Orange Syrup. The syrup is equal parts sweet and tart and delivers amazing flavor. And the best part is that it doesn’t have any artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. It was the perfect way to add both sweetness and flavor to this drink. I already know this will be a hit for my Easter brunch!

What is a Blood Orange Cordial?

A cordial in this case is basically a non-alcoholic fruit syrup for mixing into cocktails. The blood orange cordial for this recipe is made from pure blood orange concentrate by The Perfect Purée of Napa Valley. It is available from their website and in San Diego at Specialty Produce.

Vodka Cocktails

You can make similar vodka cocktails by mixing vodka with tonic water, orange juice, sprite, ginger ale etc. The mixes vary in degree of sweetness based on what you decide to mix this alcohol with.

Since we are trying to avoid sugar, I decided to use slices of blood orange, fresh blood orange juice (less sugar than store bought juice) and sparkling water to add some fizz.

An Insanely Delicious Blood Orange Sparkling Margarita

A beautiful ruby colored sweet and citrusy blood orange margarita that’s like a cross between a mimosa and a margarita. This blood orange cocktail is guaranteed to earn you some serious points with your guests!

What do you get when a margarita and a mimosa fall in love?

Debbie loves her margaritas and she’s converted me to a fan over the years. Even if you aren’t a die hard tequila fan, everyone loves a sparkly mimosa that’s bubbling with fruity flavor? Even the boys! Don’t let them tell you otherwise… P

This sparkling blood orange margarita is fun to serve at your cocktail party cuz it will keep your guests on their toes. Is it a margarita….? Or is it a mimosa….? Its damn delicious, that’s what it is! You and your guests will both love it. But it comes with a kick, so drink at your own risk.

We like to call this blood orange cocktail a sparkling margarita and this one is made with fresh squeezed blood orange juice, tequila, vanilla simple syrup, sprigs of mint and topped with a good glug of sparkling wine, or champagne.

First you will need to make blood orange juice ice cubes. If you use plain ice cubes with the fresh squeezed juice to make the frozen part of the margarita, it will be all watered down and not very tasty.

Trust us, we learned this the hard way a long time ago…

Add some cooled simple syrup to your blood orange ice cubes when you blend it and blend till you have a slightly sweet slushy mixture. In a glass, add the mint and tequila and muddle it really well to infuse that minty flavor into the tequila. Add a good dollop of the slushy mixture to the glass and top that with bubbly.

The only prep work involved in these is making the blood orange ice cubes. We freshly squeezed our oranges, but you may be able to find some good blood orange juice somewhere. If you do, let us know! WE WANT SOME!

Last weekend, after cleaning our new house, Kevin and I had a few people over to check out our new (amazing) place. The sun was shining so we all grabbed chairs and sat outside on our brand new front deck and sipped on these beauties.

When the sun went behind a tree, we all grabbed our chairs and raced to the back deck where there was another patch of sun. Up here in south western BC, when the spring sun is shining, we take full advantage!

Though I have to admit, antioxidants weren’t really front-of-mind when I decided to make these. I was thinking more about the pretty colors and bountiful flavors. Blood oranges bring a slightly tart, almost concentrated orange flavor to the table (though this can also depend on the specific oranges you get). And pomegranate juice gives it that signature juicy jolt – almost raspberry in flavor. Combined, you’ve got a fancy pink, sparkly cocktail on your hands that tastes as good as it looks.

I tend towards Prosecco when making champagne cocktails because overly-sweet sparkling wine isn’t really my thing. But I have to admit that a teaspoonful of sugar (or, to be more champagne-cocktail authentic, a sugar cube) really makes it when using a drier wine. You could also start out with something sweeter and skip the wine – like a Moscato. Make it yours!

I can’t decide which part I’m more in love with – the gorgeous over-the-top blood orange slices, or the way the champagne bubbles make the pomegranate arils dance around while you’re drinking it. Or, you know, the champagne cocktail itself.

Blood Orange and Prosecco Cocktail

Ingredients US Metric

  • For the blood orange nectar
  • 2 cups fresh blood orange juice (from 8 blood oranges)
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups cold water
  • For the cocktail
  • 2 ounces blood orange nectar
  • 1 to 2 ounces St. Germain (elderflower liqueur)
  • 4 ounces Prosecco


Stir together the orange juice, lemon juice, sugar, and water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer for 5 minutes.

Let the nectar cool slightly, then strain it through a fine-mesh strainer into a 1-quart glass jar or other container with a lid. Let cool. Cover and refrigerate for at least a few hours and up to 2 weeks.

Combine the blood orange nectar, St. Germain, and Prosecco in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into 2 chilled coupe glasses or flutes.

This blood orange and Prosecco cocktail was fun to make, pretty, and festive to serve. I didn't find blood oranges, so I made the nectar from pink-fleshed Cava Cava oranges. My tasters loved the flavors of the cocktail but thought it was a tad on the sweet side, so for our second glass, we halved the nectar and liqueur. I will make this again for a special brunch.

Stunner of a cocktail! The sweet yet slightly bitter flavor from the blood orange nectar perfectly complemented the dry Prosecco in this cocktail. The blood orange nectar was easy enough to make, although I only made half the recipe. I served this in Champagne flutes on New Year's Eve and it was a hit. I love anything with St. Germain, so I knew this recipe would be a keeper. Cheers!

I always have a few bottles of sparkling wine open for New Year's Eve. I love the sparkling wine by itself or with food, but I also try to include some kind of mixer for variation. This blood orange and Prosecco cocktail recipe didn't disappoint. The blood orange nectar is utterly delicious and looks "bloody" gorgeous. It's sweet enough and has a good bit of tartness in there to round things out. It is also easy to make, but be careful of boil overs! I had to make it twice, using half a recipe each time. The nectar is versatile and can be used with sparkling water to make a nice soda. I also cannot wait to try some nectar in a margarita. My only change, for my taste, would be to reduce the St. Germain in the cocktails to 1 ounce. That gave me enough floral aroma and did not overly sweeten the drink or mask the citrus flavors. Another cocktail I made that night was a bitter version using the blood orange nectar, Prosecco, much less St. Germain, and 1 ounce Campari. Lovely stuff.

This blood orange and Prosecco cocktail was a perfect combination of floral, sweet, and bubbly. Since blood oranges weren't yet in season when I made this, I used blood orange juice from my local market. I was concerned that adding sugar to an already sweet juice might be too much, but the lemon cut the sweetness and the sugar bulked it up, which helped boost the flavor. It was so easy to make and my testers enjoyed the drink quite a bit. I might, in the future, combine it with another fruit juice, but the cocktail was perfect the way it was. Odd name for a delicious cocktail, though. Maybe Cupid's Kiss?

Usually we have several mixers for our parties. At this gathering, I set up the bar with this blood orange and Prosecco cocktail mixer and wine and beer for the set-in-their-ways folk. The young partygoers (all of legal age, thank you) were the more adventurous. It was a hit with our crowd, and the color is the perfect shade for Cupid. I used 7 oranges, but I used a handheld citrus juicer which gets all the juice and our oranges were on the big side. A note for using the leftover nectar: It comes in handy when you don't want to imbibe or wish to offer a nonalcoholic drink. I used our soda maker and created a carbonated drink with the leftovers. Soda water could also be used.
