Sweet cabbage food (fasting)

Peeled cabbage is cut in half, then in quarters. The stalks are removed and we start to cut it faithfully. In a bowl put the chopped cabbage and rub lightly with a little salt.

We prepare the other ingredients.

Peel an onion and finely chop it.

We wash the strawberries, clean them and cut them into cubes.

Do the same with the pepper.

Heat the pan with 2-3 tablespoons of oil and then we start to add the vegetables one by one in their order of preparation (boiling).

Put the onion, let it soften slightly, then add the chopped carrot (mix, leave for a few more minutes). Add the cabbage and turn carefully, avoiding catching the vegetables in the bowl.

Let it cook for a few minutes and then start adding hot water (a few tablespoons).

When the vegetables are half done, add the chopped red pepper.

Cover with a lid and simmer, stirring a few times and adding hot water whenever needed (not too much water because the tomatoes will leave enough liquid).

We wash the washed tomatoes, remove the skin and seeds and chop them into cubes. Add them to the other vegetables in the pan and cover.

During this time we prepare the spices. Towards the end of cooking, add the peppercorns, thyme sprig, bay leaf and mix. We add salt to taste.

Put the chopped green dill on top and turn off the heat.

We serve as a simple fasting food, garnish or we can associate it with prepared meat, sausages, sour cream, hot peppers, etc.

Now add the finely chopped cabbage over the onion. Let it boil for about 20-30 minutes with the lid on until it penetrates well. Now add the tomatoes in the broth or the broth mixed with a little water and then let it boil for about 5-7 minutes.

Now the food should be ready. If it is not ready, leave it on the stove as needed for low heat. When it is ready, put it in the oven for a few more minutes to brown on top. Good appetite and all the best!

Fasting sweet cabbage food

Finely chop the cabbage, dust with salt and knead well. Leave in a bowl for about 30 minutes to soften.

Fasting sweet cabbage dish, slow cooker

I was telling you at the beginning of the week, when I made sweet cabbage with ciolan, that initially I only made plain cabbage, without meat. Just to test and see how the cabbage comes out in a slow cooker.

It turned out so well and we liked it so much that I said to try the meat version and, as I had already experienced a pork broth in beer still cooked in a slow cooker, I said that a combination of them would not hurt.

Unfortunately, I published the recipes a bit chaotic, so only now I manage to write the one for sweet cabbage in slow cooker. It's a fasting or vegan recipe if you want to call it that. It only goes well in the Christmas fast that begins today.

It is also a very easy recipe to make, it does not require much time in the kitchen and it has accessible and cheap ingredients. The only downside would be that the cooking time is a bit longer but for me this did not bother me.

I got used to cooking in a slow cooker and I organize myself in advance when I want to cook with it so that we have the food ready for lunch or dinner so I consider that having such an appliance in the kitchen is very helpful.

I have a 4.7 l Crock Pot branded cooker, as it is HERE. I have been using it for several years and I am very happy with it. I think it is a very good investment and an appliance that we should have in the kitchen because it helps us a lot.


2 glasses of rice,
1 kg raw cabbage,
2 large onions,
salt, coriander seeds and ginger powder,

Put the rice to boil (one volume of rice with one volume of water), let it simmer until all the water is absorbed.

During this time, the onion is finely chopped and hardened.

When it has become translucent, add a little water and finely chopped cabbage. Leave on low heat until the cabbage softens, then add coriander seeds. Don't forget to stir constantly.

Finally mix with the rice, add salt, ginger and a little olive oil.


1. Peel, chop the onion and fry in a saucepan with 3 tablespoons of oil and a tablespoon of paprika.

2. Finely chop the sauerkraut and place in the pan after the onion has hardened. Season with peppercorns, 2-3 bay leaves, dried or fresh thyme, add a good glass of water and simmer, simmer for about 45 minutes.

3. 10 minutes before taking the pan off the heat, add the broth and olives and mix.

4. Turn off the heat and flavor with chopped dill.

The best olives for this dish are large, meaty, hard and slightly salty. Also, the cabbage should not be excessively salty, in which case it should be kept in cold water for 2-3 hours. The food of cabbage with olives is eaten hot, possibly with polenta and hot peppers.
